Christo: Hey there guys, welcome back to Basic Bananas TV.
On today‘s tip, I want to share a little tip around your mind and how to keep it fresh and kind of optimized every day to perform at your best. So having competed on the surfing circle and now doing business day in and day out and having grown the business from 1 person to 20 persons and a lot going on and competition in surfing and that back in the day, throughout all of these journeys, there‘s something that I‘ve done consistently and that‘s actually to meditate.
Now this might seem a little weird for some of you, but it‘s to take moments out where we actually meditate and clear the mind and refresh the mind. So a good little tip for you, I was very fortunate, my mom is a meditation teacher so she told me to meditate years back and when I was competing on the surfing circle – getting performance anxiety and getting nervous I would meditate. Sometimes I get slack and I don‘t do it for a while.
What we have actually implemented now into our team, into the office, into the routine, is meditate every day at 3pm. The Basic Bananas team, we all sit on the floor or we gather in a room here and we all just sit around, close our eyes and meditate in only 10 minutes. Sometimes that 10 minutes can feel like it‘s an hour. It‘s very refreshing and you come back with a clean mind. Especially, when you are really overwhelmed and there is too much going on. We know it that when one of the team members are kind of too busy to meditate, it‘s when you need it the most. There is some saying out there that says you should meditate for 20 minutes every single day except for when you don‘t have time, then you should take an hour
For other people, you might get it from certain areas. I surf all the time so it clears the mind and it has me that 100% focus at that time. Wherever you get it, it‘s okay. But just to make sure as business owners we‘re always burying ourselves in to-do lists and the next thing and the next thing and it just leads to that overwhelming and burn out. So always make sure that you‘re looking after number 1. And a great thing to do, even if you do have those other activities is to learn to meditate. It‘s a really good tip for you there. You can do it anywhere. I don‘t think you have to be a guru that‘s sitting on a rock up at the top of a mountain somewhere with your legs crossed. You could be sitting there, I do it on the airplane, you can do it in all sorts of setting as long as you‘re comfortable, even in any situation or if there are distractions around you, you can have that too. Just kind of relax and reset, especially maybe before important business meetings and things like that. It‘s a great little tip to do even if it‘s just 10 minutes.
