Christo: Hey there guys, welcome back to Basic Bananas TV. Today the video tip for you is answering a question from our opinion here at Basic Bananas. The common question that always comes up, we hear over and over again is “Should I outsource my marketing?” I have an opinion on this now. The thing is, the businesses that we see grow the most rapidly, considering we get to work with a lot of different businesses every single year. Thousands over the years now and working with them on things that have helped them to grow, and we see what’s working and what’s not, day in, day out with the businesses we work with.

A common trait within the business owners, within the person behind the businesses that we see grow the most rapidly is it’s the person who is continually learning their marketing. Not necessarily outsourcing their entire marketing. The way we look at it is, you should be learning and you should be understanding the marketing but you don’t have to be doing every single part. There should be some elements that you outsource for sure.

It’s like an architect. When an architect draws up the plans for a house, the architect understands the plans and understands how it all fits together. This is how you should be with your marketing. These business owners that are always up-scaling, they’re understanding the marketing and understanding the flow of the marketing and how it works. They’re not paying out more than they need to be or spending their time doing work they shouldn’t be doing but they know what to outsource. They also know what good marketing should look like.

For example, the architect draws the plans for the house. He might have a bit of a rough understanding, he or she, of how many bricks might need to be laid maybe roughly how much it might cost for the bricks and roughly how much time it might take for the bricks to be laid. The architect doesn’t lay the bricks. Same with your marketing. You should have an understanding or you will pay out more than you need to be paying to outsource. Even if you have a team, or you do outsource to contractors you need to be able to look at what they’re doing to know whether they’re doing a good jobs.

Continually learn. Create a plan. Test and measure your marketing and adjust your campaigns as you go. Basically always up-scaling, always learning. As far as we’re concerned, it takes a combination of having a good product or service and understanding the importance of marketing to create a real winning, kind of like thriving business. The ones that we see grow the most rapidly, they’re a combination of the both. It’s almost like the entrepreneur considers themselves a marketer.

Should you outsource your marketing? It’s not black or white the answer on that one, is it? Continually learning, and there will be some parts you should certainly outsource. As you learn and you understand more about marketing you know which areas you should definitely be outsourcing and which ones you can do yourself or you can have your team doing. At least you’ll know whether they’re doing a good job or not. Continually learning, as you are here on this video tip.
