Erik: Hi guys. It’s Erik here from Basic Bananas Canada. I’m just going to be going over a tip here today on how to use values to evaluate your employees and your team, and make sure that your culture is strong. The way that we do that is something that I picked up from a book I read, Traction by Gino Wickman. This is a play on that, it’s not exactly what he wrote down, but this is how we use it. What we do is we allow our team members to evaluate each other. It’s especially beneficial if you can use the team members that are below managers to evaluate managers above them, but then also [laterally 00:00:4three] as well.

The way that we do that is we have a team member, and then we have the values listed out. Typically we’ll have between … we have 7 values, and then what we’ll get the team member to do is list whether their co-worker either displays that value, which is a plus, is neutral on the value, which is a zero, or actively does not display that value or goes against that value, and that’s a negative. Then what you want to do within your company is establish how many negatives you’re going to allow, and how many neutrals you’re going to allow.

For us, as an example, [if we have 00:01:19] seven values, we don’t allow any more than three neutrals, which means that the person’s not actively going out and displaying that value really well but they’re not going against it, so they’re allowed three neutrals and they’re allowed zero negatives. What that means is if any team member displays a negative and they get that under review, what we’ll do is we’ll let them know that that’s the case, we’ll give them two weeks to see if they can correct that value, and then they’ll do a review again with the team, and if it doesn’t seem to be that they’ve corrected that value, then we have to let them go.

We built that right into our hiring methods from the beginning, so when we hire, employees know that that’s part of the evaluation process. That’s worked out really well for us at Basic Bananas, so hopefully you can take that tip back to your company, and it will tighten up your team culture, if that’s [inaudible 00:0two:14]. Again, I’m Erik here from Basic Bananas Canada. If you guys want to comment below, then that’ll be awesome. If you have any questions or anything like that, we’ll answer those in the next videos. All right. We’ll see you guys later.
