Christo: Hi there, and welcome to Basic Bananas headquarters. Today we have a video tip for you to assist you with your marketing to hopefully get your message out there more, help you attract more clients, and generate more sales. My name is Christo, this is Franziska, we are the founders of Basic Bananas.

Today’s tip is about being known for something. Obviously, as a small business, you need to be known for something, otherwise blending in is going to be an extremely hard battle. If we’re fitting in in a market, we want to be known for something that really makes us stand out, whether you’re selling yourself as an expert or your product, which you have, or your business in general, whatever your product or service is. We want to make sure that you are known for something. How do we go about that and where do we start?

Franziska: I’m going to give you 3 things to do right now. The first thing you need to do right now, or whenever you have time after these videos, make a list of all the things that you think you’re really good at. What are your strengths? The second list is list all the things that make you unique. What makes your business unique? The third list, ask your clients why they buy from you. Why are they coming to you? Ask them that and then you have 3 lists. Now what you do with those 3 lists, you then look for all the commonalities and you look at which things on that list, which 2 or 3 maximum 3 things on that list you want to be known for, maximum you can even just pick 1 or 2, no more than 3. You pick 1, 2, or 3 things from that list and then what you do with the fourth thing you do once … Well, the fourth thing is pick them, the fifth thing is you amplify them. That’s real important.

Christo: Yes, so to amplify them, basically anything that you do that is [quantifies 00:01:40] or facing to the world, so it could be even how you send your invoices, anything that goes external from your business, you should be looking at it and thinking, “Okay, how can we include these 2 things that we have chosen?” For example, here at Basic Bananas, we will amplify that fact that we help to make complex marketing things simple, so making the complex simple. The other side of it is we want to amplify fun. We can have fun even though we’re working hard in a business or growing a business or rapidly changing a business. You can still have fun, I believe, well we believe. We’ll always look to include those 2 things. Then we can be known for 1 or 2 things, as with yourself. People aren’t going to spend 15 minutes talking to you about the 15 things you’re known for. You pick 1. It’s like Volvo, they’re known for safety for example. They’ll still continue to market the fact that they have these special seat belt safety checks and all the special features to keep them known for that one thing.

Franziska: Exactly. You have to think about your own business and make the lists as soon as you can. Then pick the 1, 2, or 3 things and just go ahead and do it. Then, the more you do this, the more you enforce this, the more you will be known for something. Thanks so much for watching and hopefully see you next time.

Christo: Thanks guys.
