Christo Hall: Hi there! So a common question we get is how do I build my own marketing team? How do I build out a team? How do I find marketers? How do I find people to market my business for me?

So to build out your own marketing team, first of all, if you‘re at a point, obviously some large organizations can afford to bring in experts in key different areas of marketing. However, at any level, even if you‘re a tiny little operation and you looking to take on your first marketing employee or a couple, or build a team of contractors, whatever you want to do this, you need a marketing strategist in the team. So, you as business owner, or marketing strategist for the business have a very important role.

If you‘re the owner of a small business, you should be the marketing strategist and then you can look to build a team of other marketing strategists. Now, what the strategist does is, I‘d suggest to you first if you‘re looking to get this team started, is do the marketing itself. Learn how to market your business yourself. Learn all the different campaigns, all the strategies and be across the plan. So that then, what you do is you do it. As you do it, you learn the process. It‘s like practice. Then you script it so you keep processes, you record it. You basically document the process. After we‘ve scripted it and documented the process, we put that into somewhere, like a manual, an operations manual and so on. Then you can have the team do it for you.

So do it, script it, document it, then you can basically delegate it and move it off your plate. So that as people do these tasks, these marketing campaigns, you can look at it and you‘ll know really quickly whether they‘re doing the right thing for you or not. So you have the understanding. If you‘re always just looking to outsource it and get someone else to do just it for you so you can spend your days on the beach or whatever and have someone else look after it. Unfortunately, it‘s not really tending to work that way when we see lots of business owners try and do this. They pay out a lot of money. Someone might be good at one piece of marketing, they might even deliver leads to your business or your website. But if you haven‘t got all the plan and the strategy in place, you won‘t really see a return from that activity. So you need to be the strategist that‘s across everything and then you have different people to do different parts.

This is how we build out the teams. So you do it, script it, document it like process it, record it and put it in the operations manual. Then you have other team and people can do it for you as you develop more of these strategies, you develop the team and start to grow the team out that way. So depending on the campaigns, you find the right team member. It could be someone who is like a virtual assistant, it could be someone who is a contractor, it could be an employee that you work with in-house, or it could be a part-time employee. So you get the idea. There‘s lots of options there. But do it first, learn it, script it, process it and document it and move it off your plate. That‘s the process.
