Franziska: Hi and welcome back! This is video two of the Culture Matrix™ process. In the first video, I’ve shared with you a survey on how to do a culture pulse check with your team. Now in this video, I’m going to share with you the next steps which are reviewing this information, and, also putting together a “Culture Code”, culture principles for your team, and that’s probably some of the biggest work that you’re doing. but very important work. Now when it comes to reviewing the information from your survey that I shared in the first video, the things you want to look out for is what’s working really well right now in your team, in your culture, and what’s not working. What’s working, what’s not working. And the third question to ask is what would make this the best culture that you could create, in line with your brand strategy? What would make this the best culture you can create? Then, you take the information from your team, that they have given you, and you now come up with a set of behaviours, a set of non-behaviours, and a set of principles for your business. I will give you some examples, don’t worry so that you know how this would look like in practice. Now, when it comes to doing this putting together your behaviours and non-behaviours, you need to do this as the founder, or, you can also involve some of your team. We do like this as a bit of a collaborative approach with some of your team, or depending on how big your team is; if it’s a small team, maybe your entire team will help you come up with these principles and behaviours. So as an example here, I’ve got the Basic Bananas principles, some of them~ in front of me, so I can give you a bit of a taste of how the principles could look like. And you can have as many or as little team principles that you want, these are things that are important in your business for your team and new team members to know that sort of giving your culture the flavour of how people show up. So for us here, some of our principles are: “Use your best judgment”, and then for each of them, you have a little descriptor below. So… “Use your best judgment – Got common sense? Use it”. Another one is, “Be proactive” and the descriptor here is “Don’t ask. Don’t wait for mommy and daddy to tell you what to do. Be proactive.” And you can see how our tone is very playful because again, that’s in line with our brand strategy at Basic Bananas. Your tone will be different your tone might be courageous, or conservative, or modern, or simple, or upbeat, or vibrant, or calm. Whatever your brand strategy is, that will be reflected in this. Another one for us is “to make mistakes”, and then we say “Really. Yes. Failing is a good thing. Why? Because it’s one of the fastest ways to learn.” Another one is “Be weird – Bring all of yourself if you want to come to work, or show up to a meeting in a unicorn onesie, or butterfly wings, please do”. And people sometimes do, and it’s totally part of our culture. “Take ownership, work hard, play harder. Look after yourself. If you’re grumpy, go for a walk around the block, meditate, make a coffee, sing a song, go for a surf, etc.” So you can see, these are our team principles at Basic Bananas that are very much reflective of our culture. If you have been exposed to us for a while you know that this is very much in line with how we are and show up, because it’s part of our ingrained in our culture. Then you also have some behaviours, so these are the principles, the team principles, then you can also come up with some behaviours, and those are things like how we dress, how we communicate, how we answer the phone, how we respond to emails, how we run meetings, how we welcome visitors to our offices if you have an office, or how we run a Zoom, things like that. And then you can also do non-behaviour, so “how we don’t talk”. And one of our recent books that we’ve created and called Culture Book that we’ve created for a client, they said “We don’t swear,” but that was one of their non-behaviours is “We don’t swear” which was very important for them. So that’s it. Now, in the next video, I am going to share with you how to put together a Culture Book. So how to make this all visual, and we’ll show you a few of our own pages, of our own Culture Book, so you have a bit of a visual reference. And as always, thank you so much for tuning in here. Thank you for being in our community. Our mission here is to help business owners succeed and this is part of what we do, and we just are so grateful to have you here. I’ll see you in the next video.
