Some days you just want to give up and run away to a place where no one can find you. Other times, you feel like hugging the whole world – or at least anyone you meet in the street. Are you crazy?
Nope. Welcome to the life of an entrepreneur.
Actually, you have chosen to be an entrepreneur, so maybe you are a little bit insane.
Lately I‘ve spoken to a lot of business owners who are going through a slight slump, especially because of Christmas and the responsibilities and busyness that come with it. Somehow Christmas makes people a little frantic, but that‘s a whole other article or even book! I assure them that they are not alone on this journey and every entrepreneur experiences intense ups and downs throughout the year – sometimes even during the course of one day!
There will be days you‘ll want to bang your head against a wall and cry; others you‘ll want to do star jumps all day long (now that would be fun!). It‘s completely normal. As an entrepreneur and risk-taker, the trick is to learn how to make the ups more inspiring and the downs less debilitating. As the business grows, the challenges you face will be completely different to those you encountered at the beginning – to the point where they almost make the early ones insignificant. As an entrepreneur, you learn how to deal with those challenges without losing your mind.
Running your own business is like riding a rollercoaster, it‘s exciting and scary at the same time. Sometimes you just have to hold on and scream a little. And usually you come out at the other end in one piece and ready for the next wonderful challenge.
If you‘re the type of person who prefers certainty and safety, I would definitely advise you not to embark on the path of an entrepreneur. The truth is that it‘s not for everyone. And that‘s a good thing. It‘s like Vegemite. You either love it or hate it, and no amount of tasting and trying will ever change your instinctive feeling towards it. Think how unhappy the anti-Vegemiter would be if they were forced to eat a heap of Vegemite sandwiches every day…
