Christo: Hey there. Welcome back to Basic Bananas TV. I’m Christo. Once again, I’m still Christo, actually.
Franziska: You still are Christo.
Christo: I can …
Franziska: And I’m still Franziska.
Christo: And this is still Franziska.
Franziska: The lovely, Franziska.
Christo: Still lovely, as well, and still Franziska. Now, today we’re going to share a tip on kind of reporting within your business, and how to go about it. Even if it’s just a little micro-business, like you’re all on your own, you’re all on your lonely self, or you’ve got a team of 40 people. Because as things tend to grown it can get harder to track who’s doing what, what’s going on in your business. Or, if you’re on your own, you should already start doing this as well. Basically, what we’re talking about is, a good way we like to do it is break the business into departments, like different key areas of the business. There might be a marketing area, a sales area, there might be a product fulfillment or ordering or manufacturing, or however you do that.
Franziska: Operations.
Christo: Operations. Exactly.
Franziska: Team happiness is one of ours too.
Christo: Team happiness. Then what we do is then we break it into these sections, and then we need to track it, so work out the key areas. You could just simply start with these ones, which we’ve [then 00:01:11] just shared right now. The finance would be another area, like the money side of it, the bookkeeping. Then basically, with each of those areas, you’re going to need to set up some reporting so that you know that stuff’s getting done for each of these areas.
Franziska: Exactly.
Christo: So, to start reporting.
Franziska: Then what we do is, for each of these departments, we then have one person in charge of it. If you’re a solo entrepreneur, you are in charge of all of them.
Christo: [Wack 00:01:33] on different hats.
Franziska: Exactly. Yeah, that’s even a good idea. Have different colored hat for each department. If you do have a team, then each department has one person in charge of those numbers. What we do here at Basic Bananas, on Friday, each department head, who is in charge of those numbers, will send us a quick email and say, “Hey. Here are the numbers in terms of marketing, which includes social media,” for example. Or, “Here are the numbers in terms of product, or sales that we have made this week.” It’s very tangible, it’s very specific, and it really keeps your eye on the pulse of your business. You always look at only the most critical numbers every single week, so you can see what’s going up and down.
Christo: Yeah.
Franziska: Now, in one of the future videos, we will also share with you in terms of marketing metrics, so which metrics do you need to measure when it comes to your marketing efforts and your marketing campaigns, which is definitely something that we’re going to go more into depth in the next video.
Christo: Yes. Yep. Even if it is you all alone, and you’re thinking, “But, I don’t have these teams and things,” just create … or the way we originally did it with Basic Bananas, many, many moons ago, was an exercise book, and it had the marketing section. We’d just copy it over, so it was just things too, like key things, ‘website visits for this week,’ ‘social media likes for this week,’ ‘sold,’ like, ‘amount of sales this week,’ ‘different products.’ We could break them down. As you grow, then that stuff gets delivered back to you, and you know that the whole kind of marketing team’s doing their job because you know the website visits have gone up, you know the content’s been posted. You see, it all comes …
Franziska: Exactly.
Christo: … from these big overview numbers.
Franziska: Celebrate them too. Celebrate your weekly achievements.
Christo: Yes.
Franziska: Because celebrating is good for you.
Christo: The best way to do it is open a bottle of fresh, sparkling water …
Franziska: And [inaudible 00:03:10]
Christo: … two champagne glasses, put some sparkling water in the glasses, big cheers, and celebrate.
Franziska: Have some chocolate with it too.
Christo: Because testing and measuring sounds boring. It’s celebrating.
Franziska: Especially with sparkling water. It really takes it to a whole new level.
Christo: It does.
Franziska: Yeah.
