As a business owner, it is crucial to know your target audience. In this episode, Franziska explains the three simple steps to identify your target audience by looking at your market‘s behaviour.
Franziska: So the pre-work, the first thing you do in the pre-work here is thinking about who are we wanting to target? Who are we going to target?
We have this we don‘t need to do anything. You don‘t need to write a copy, you don‘t need to find which channel, you don‘t need to know if you‘re using Facebook or Twitter, you don‘t need to do anything unless you know who you want to target. So who‘s your market first?
The three questions really to ask is what are the demographics? So first of all, so really, specifically who are we targeting right now? Usually, it‘s just a sub-segment of your general market. So you might have a market. You might say my market is really anyone who wants to get a new garden, for example, but let‘s choose a sub-segment of that market. Is it people that just bought a new house? Or is it people that want to sell their houses? Choose a demographic that is very specific. It‘s often a sub-segment. If you want to be really competitive, it‘s definitely a sub-segment.
Then, what are their emotional triggers? So what are they triggered by? So after you know the demographics, and I‘ll give you a little bit of techno music in a minute, what are they triggered by? The questions that you guys should know already are what are their desires when it comes to say for example, having a new garden? Is it my desire to show off to my neighbour or it‘s my desire to sell my house for new money? What is my frustration? Is my frustration that every time I come home I feel like, God, it‘s my frustration that my garden doesn‘t look as nice as the one down the road that I admire every time I walk past. What are my desires? What triggers me emotionally when it comes to your company, your service or product?
Then where do they spend time? Where do they hang out? What I mean by that is are they reading a certain newspaper? Are they belonging to ta certain organization? Are they on Facebook? Are they on LinkedIn? Are they on Instagram? Where do they spend time? Do they belong to an association? Do they have kids and do they belong to some school clubs? Where do they spend time?
